Redlands · Logan · bayside Brisbane

Privacy and freedom, just a fence away.

Your home is your sanctuary. We just make more of it.

We build fences, decks, pergolas, carports and retaining walls for families across the Redlands, Logan and bayside Brisbane. A fence that means you can leave the back door open. A deck that means Sunday afternoons happen at home. Space your kids grow into rather than out of.

Timber paling fence running the full length of a side boundary past a house
Side boundary, full runPl. 01

The whole side of the house in one run, past the meter box to the back corner. A sleeper course under the fence holds the level where the ground falls away.

Long straight timber paling fence along a rear boundary
One continuous linePl. 02

No step in it and no wander. Where a run reads straight from one end to the other, the set-out was right before the first hole was dug.

Timber paling fence built level on top of a sleeper retaining wall
Fence over a retaining wallPl. 04

The sleepers take the fall, the fence sits level on top of them. Doing it the other way round is how you end up with a fence that follows the ground instead of holding a line.

Timber paling fence with the ground in front of it cleared and levelled
Ground cleared firstPl. 06

The strip in front of the run was cleared and levelled before a post went in. Most of the work on a fence happens before anyone sees a paling.

Green Colorbond fence running the length of a brick driveway
Colorbond along a drivewayPl. 07

Sheets plumb, top rail level over the length of the drive. Colorbond shows a bad line more than timber does, because there is nothing in the surface to hide it.

Timber screen fence beside a house with planting in front of it
Screen fence beside the housePl. 10

Closing the side off without boxing the yard in. Palings gapped consistently from the top rail down.

We build all of them. We just haven’t photographed one yet, and putting up somebody else’s photo to fill the gap isn’t something we’re willing to do. Ask and we’ll talk you through exactly how we’d build yours.

What we build

Seven things, fencing first.

Fencing is the one we are known for. The rest is the same standard applied to a different shape. All services →

01

Fencing

Timber and Colorbond, boundary and screen fencing. Posts on consistent centres, footings dug to depth, rails level over the whole run. A fence that is out by twenty millimetres reads as wrong even to someone who could not tell you why.

Lead service
02

Decks

Low-set and elevated decking, framed square and fixed down neatly. Board gaps consistent, cuts clean, fixings in line.

Quoted per job
03

Pergolas

Freestanding and attached. Posts plumb, beams level, rafters evenly spaced. Built to sit right with the house rather than look bolted on afterwards.

Quoted per job
04

Carports

Single and double, framed and roofed. Set out around the actual driveway and the actual car, not a standard span that nearly fits.

Quoted per job
05

Retaining walls

Sleeper and block walls for levelling a yard or holding a slope. Drainage handled behind the wall, because the walls that fail are almost always the ones where it was not.

Quoted per job
06

Landscaping

Turfing, garden edging, levelling and the tidy-up work that finishes a build off.

Quoted per job
07

Demolition

Removing the old deck, the old fence or the old shed before the new one goes in. Cleared, loaded and taken away so you are not left with a pile to deal with.

The Smitco Standard

What we mean when we say it’s done properly.

Every job leaves the same way. Not because we have a checklist on a clipboard, but because the difference between a fence that lasts and a fence that sags is decided in the boring parts, before anyone picks up a drill.

01

Set out before it’s built

Measured, marked and checked before anything is dug. A run that starts twenty millimetres out finishes a long way out, and no amount of good building fixes it afterwards.

02

The parts nobody photographs

Footing depth, drainage behind a retaining wall, the fixings. The things that decide whether it is still right in five years are the things you will never see.

03

Precision and accuracy

Post centres consistent, rails level end to end, gaps even. Precision is not fussiness on a build like this — it is the whole difference between neat and nearly.

04

Finished, not just built

Cuts clean, site cleared, offcuts gone. You should not be able to tell where one day’s work stopped and the next started.

Every Smitco job is done by our team, to the same standard, and Tyrone signs off on all of it. We don’t hand your job to a subcontractor you’ve never met.

Done once, done properly, done by us.

Before you ring

The five things everyone asks.

Most people would rather read than ring, so we wrote the answers down. All the questions →

The one about your neighbour is the one worth reading. Queensland has actual rules about who pays for a dividing fence, and knowing them before you knock on the door makes the conversation a lot easier.

What people said

In their words, not ours.

Tyrone Smit was a very pleasant person to deal with. He conducted himself in a professional manner throughout. I highly recommend him.
