About

How a Smitco job runs.

Smitco Builds & Services is run by Tyrone Smit out of Mount Cotton, working across Brisbane, the Redlands and Logan. Quotes come from someone who has stood in the yard and will be accountable for the build, which tends to keep them honest.

The method

Set out before it is built.

The difference between a job that looks right in five years and one that does not is almost never the building. It is the hour before it, and the parts nobody photographs: the set-out, the footing depth, the drainage behind a wall.

01

Someone comes and looks

Measures the run, checks the ground and the fall, works out what is actually involved. Quoting off a phone call is how people end up with surprises.

02

You get a real quote

Not a template, and not a number a salesperson pulled together off a photo. If something about the job is going to cost more than you expect, you hear it then rather than halfway through.

03

It gets set out before it gets built

The measuring, marking and checking happens before the first hole is dug. This is the part that decides whether the finished job looks right, and it is the part that gets skipped when someone is in a hurry.

04

Two to three days, then it is done

Built, cleaned up, rubbish gone. Nobody is coming back in a fortnight to finish the last bit off.

The standard

The parts you cannot see

Footing depth, drainage behind a retaining wall, the fixings. The things that decide whether it is still right in five years are the things nobody photographs.

The work

Fencing and carpentry

Fences, decks, pergolas, carports, retaining walls and the groundwork that goes with them. Same standard across the list.

If the old fence is coming out, it leaves on the back of this rather than sitting in a pile in your yard until somebody organises a skip. Demolition and removal are part of the job, not an extra you arrange yourself.

Materials out, run set out, fence going up. It looks like this for two or three days, and then it is finished and the yard is yours again.

Goes straight to Smitco. Tyrone reads every one of these himself, and you will hear back from someone who has priced this work before, not a call centre.
