Why we ask about these.
They are ticked above so we know before we come out. They are not in the number yet, because we would rather tell you the real figure in your yard than guess at it here.
Removing the old fence
There is a day in it before anything new goes up — pulling it out, digging out the old footings, and getting the lot off site. Concrete footings on an old fence are the part that surprises people.
Gates
A gate is not a length of fence. It needs heavier posts, hardware that will still swing straight in five years, and the opening set out so it clears the ground through the whole arc.
Sloping ground
A fence on a slope is either stepped or raked, and both take longer than a run on the flat. It also changes how much material is in it, because the panels stop being identical.
Tight access
If a barrow cannot get down the side, every post, every bag of concrete and every paling is carried. On a long run that is most of a day on its own.
